Dr Michael Porter is CEDA’s Director of Research and Policy. He is the Founding Executive Chairman of Tasman Asia Pacific and the Tasman Institute. He has worked in advisory and research economist roles for IMF, the Reserve Bank of Australia, and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. As Founding Director, Centre of Policy Studies (CoPS), Monash University, 1980-1990, he won a Commonwealth Research Centre of Excellence Award in 1982, one of 10 selected national centres and the only award in economics. Research included taxation, public sector reform, environment, resources and the financial sector. CoPS in the 1980s, and the Tasman Institute in the 1990s, led reforms under Project Victoria. The strategies covered restructure and privatisation of electricity, gas, ports, water, transport, state enterprises plus labour markets and taxation reform. Michael has taught at universities including Yale (Irving Fisher Professor 1978–79), Stanford, Monash and the ANU. He is a winner of the Adam Smith Medal. Michael is an Agent Provocateur for CI 2010. |
